On Wednesday, October 17th, a group of 12 children and teens greeted 35 seniors at Hotel Oakland Village. First, the adorable three-year-old Philip sang nursery songs. Diana performed a dance to “Beautiful Mind” by Travis King. Sophia danced hip-hop dance with multiple pieces of music combined. Andy and Sam demonstrated judo martial arts. Susanna played the song “Jasmine Flower” on the violin, which had a deep connection with the seniors since they all knew the song well. After our performances, the seniors also wanted to join in with the music and interactivity, so a senior led a sing-along, where the other seniors could clap along and play handheld percussion instruments. The music therapy program ended with each senior receiving a handmade paper lantern, made by the students.
