Music Therapy

On December 12, 2018, Seagull Leadership International and the seniors of Hotel Oakland welcomed Mr. Cohen and the Holy Names High School Orchestra. The orchestra set up quickly and started off by teaching some seniors how to play the violin. The seniors were fascinated by learning how to play the instruments. Afterwards, the orchestra played two songs: Allegro in D for Strings (From the Concerto for two trumpets) by Antonio Vivaldi, and Georg Philipp Telemann’s Concerto for 4 Violins. The seniors enjoyed the classical music of Vivaldi and Telemann, but the orchestra had another surprise for them. They passed out packets of paper with song lyrics to many different Christmas and holiday-related songs. The seniors sang along with the orchestra and had a great time.
