On December 16, 2020, Seagull Leadership held a virtual Music Therapy event for Hotel Oakland, a senior center. To take precautions during the pandemic, audio performances were showcased over the phone, and seniors dialed in to listen. SLI members and guests performed a variety of talents: Erik, Olanda, Ryan, and Longwen played instruments like the pipa, guzheng, piano, and erhu. Singing and storytelling were also performed by Amanda, Hayton, and Ivy. Although the event didn’t last long, it was an opportunity to uplift seniors during the pandemic. While we were prepping, the seniors were on the line talking to each other and reconnecting with one another. Everyone had a great time and wished each other a Happy New Year.
